As I Lay Dying is an American metalcore band from San Diego, California. Founded in 2000 by vocalist Tim Lambesis, the establishment of the band’s first full lineup, which included drummer Jordan Mancino, occurred in 2001. As I Lay Dying has released six albums, one split album, and two compilation albums.

Shadows Are Security is the band’s third studio album. The album was released on June 14, 2005 through Metal Blade Records, and was produced by Tim Lambesis, the band’s vocalist, and Phil Sgrosso, one of the band’s guitarists, along with Steve Russell. Although Clint Norris was the bassist when this album was recorded, he is not featured on the album on either bass or vocals. Phil Sgrosso is credited with recording bass on the album. Norris still performed with the band at live shows during his time as bassist, and even appeared in all three music videos from the album.

Fun Fact

The band named themselves after the 1930’s novel “As I Lay Dying” by William Faulkner which is about the death of Addie Bundren and her family’s quest to bury her. According to the band there is no correlation between the book and the band, they just thought it sounded like a cool band name.
