Album: Wonder What’s Next
Released: October 8, 2002
Chevelle is an American alternative metal band that formed in 1995 in the Chicago suburb of Wildwood, Illinois, when brothers Pete Loeffler and Sam Loeffler started enjoying music. Pete started playing guitar and singing while Sam began playing drums in their parents’ garage. Their youngest brother Joe joined the band later. Each of the band members were self-taught musicians. The name Chevelle came from the band members’ passion for fast cars. It was also a car their father liked, the Chevrolet Chevelle. The band started playing small outdoor concerts and clubs around Chicago, Illinois, with Joe being only 14 years old.
Wonder What’s Next is the band’s second studio album. After experiencing label troubles, Chevelle’s management set up a showcase in New York. The group received three offers and ultimately chose Epic. After debating between GGGarth and Ben Gross, they enlisted Garth to produce their sophomore album. Recording was scheduled at The Wherehouse Studio in Vancouver to begin the day following the September 11 attacks. With a tragic event having just taken place in the band’s home country, they were met with an unsettling start to the recording process. The band spent nine weeks at the spacious studio.
In 2007, a trailer containing all of Chevelle’s equipment was stolen from outside of a hotel in Fort Worth, Texas. The band posted a note on their website asking fans to keep a lookout for gear for sale marked “Chevelle.” Of the 14 guitars that were stolen, 2 of them were eventually returned. The band also got their P.A. system and a few amplifiers back, but most of the gear was never found.
