ASKING MIKE PORTNOY HARD QUESTIONS

I was at a restaurant when someone came by and told me Mike Portnoy is sitting in the front – so I went and looked for him… and there you have it. Nicest guy in the world.

Mike Portnoy is an American drummer primarily known as the former drummer of Dream Theater. He co-produced six Dream Theater albums with guitarist John Petrucci, and from the album A Change of Seasons onwards, he had been writing a significant amount of Dream Theater’s lyrics. He is the second youngest person (after Neil Peart) to be inducted into the Modern Drummer’s Hall of Fame, at 37 years of age. Mike’s new band is ‘Sons of Apollo’ – Album out 10/20/2017. When asked by Blabbermouth about playing in many different bands and projects, Mike said: “Out of the eighty-seven bands I’ve been in, I’ve only ever left two. One was DREAM THEATER after twenty-five years, and one was ADRENALINE MOB, just because that was at a point where I couldn’t juggle everything. But other than that, everything I’m a part of I stick with and develop and work with. And if I can juggle all these bands and make it work, then why the fuck not?”

MEYTAL – PULL ME UNDER (Live)

Fun Fact: Mike actually put in a good word for my band to get on our first band tour opening for Queensrych! Here’s a video of us at Hard Rock Las Vegas covering Pull Me Under. Funny enough Vinnie Paul of Pantera was in the audience watching – an unrelated but equally cool fun fact. 👌

PULL ME UNDER – DRUM COVER

When I first started covering songs it was a very hard long process to learn the songs I was attempting to cover, so I would cut the songs short as to avoid the nervous breakdown. With the years, my technique got better and figuring out drum parts slowly became doable – and it only took me 8 years 😜
