Incubus is an American rock band from Calabasas, California. The band was formed in 1991 by vocalist Brandon Boyd, lead guitarist Mike Einziger, and drummer Jose Pasillas while enrolled in Calabasas High School and later expanded to include bassist Alex “Dirk Lance” Katunich, and Gavin “DJ Lyfe” Koppell; both of whom were eventually replaced by bassist Ben Kenney and DJ Kilmore respectively.
Morning View is the band’s fourth studio album. To record the album, the band lived in Malibu, California, near a street called “Morning View Drive”. Former bassist Alex Katunich (aka “Dirk Lance”) noted that the band had previously “tried to do that for at least the writing portion of Make Yourself, but we didn’t have enough clout at the time. When we were getting ready to write this one, we knew that we needed to get into a more creative place. The idea was to not feel as if you were driving [somewhere] to work on a record. You could just get up and it was a natural extension of your day.”
Incubus band members lived together during the making of their fourth album Morning View. The band believes in a very close knit recording process and lived together while recording Morning View and recorded Megalomaniac in lead guitarist, Mike Einziger’s, living room. They have voiced feeling that being in close proximity to one another is important during the writing and recording process.
