Metallica is an American heavy metal band based in San Rafael, California. The band was formed in 1981 in Los Angeles by drummer Lars Ulrich and vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield. Metallica’s current lineup comprises founding members Hetfield and Ulrich, longtime lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo.

Master of Puppets is the band’s third studio album. In 2016, Master Of Puppets became the first heavy metal album preserved by US Library of Congress due to its historical importance. The US National Recording Registry each year selects 25 pieces judged to be “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” and keeps the best-quality originals to safeguard for future generations. ?

Fun Fact

A Loan From a Leppard: Apparently unhappy with his own studio work on ‘Ride the Lightning,’ drummer Lars Ulrich also reportedly took some extra drum lessons before recording commenced on ‘Master of Puppets.’ He got a nice loan from Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen, who shipped his favorite Ludwig “Black Beauty” snare drum to Ulrich for the sessions.
